Our Opinion:
You never know who is going to take things personally and hold a life long grudge against you from childhood. This guy builds an elaborate scheme to get back at his childhood school mates many years later. Very unique idea and well produced. This one that you will probably wouldn’t mind seeing again.
Nine Dead
Posted by: | CommentsSkull Rating: 3
Description:
Starting without a single clue , nine strangers face the mind-bender of a lifetime when a hooded madman locks them in a basement and announces that he will slay one of them every 10 minutes until they uncover the mysterious connection they all share. Can any of them solve the puzzle in less than 90 minutes? This horror-suspense film from director Chris Shadley stars Melissa Joan Hart, John Terry and Lucille Soong.
Rated R, 1 hr. 26 min., 2009
Our Opinion:
This is another single location shoot, but it is mixed with flashbacks as each participant is trying to recall their connection to their abductor. This one is very entertaining and will leave you guessing to the very end.
Breathing Room

Description:
When Tonya (Ailsa Marshall) finds herself stranded in an unfamiliar room with 13 prisoners, and each is held hostage by an electronic collar left to agonize about what horrible fate may await. It turns out, they’re slated to die, and as the clock ticks down, the terrified strangers go toes up one by one. The catch, of course, is that one of them is the killer — but who is it?
Rated R, 1 hr. 29 min., 2007
Our Opinion:
There a few movies like this where you have a single location and we a forced to examine each character to figure out the puzzle. This one is good and I would recommend it.
It’s Alive

Description:
Maternal bliss soon turns to horror for new mom Lenore (Bijou Phillips), when she discovers her little bundle of joy is a natural born killer who leaves a trail of dead in his tiny wake. As the death toll mounts, the doting mom can stay in denial for only so long. James Murray co-stars as the proud papa in director Josef Rusnak’s chilling remake of Larry Cohen’s 1974 cult horror hit.
Rated R, 1 hr. 30 min., 2008
Our Opinion:
This is a great upgrade for the original title, however, I don’t know if I would call it a remake. It is quite a different movie and also plays well for the modern horror audience. If you are pregnant this one will be even more scary for you. Who knew babies could kill…
Let the Right One In

Description:
Oskar (Kåre Hedebrant) collects news items about the grisly murders plaguing his town. He is twelve-year-old and is the constant target of bullies. Spending his time plotting revenge, he then meets a new girl named Eli (Lina Leandersson), a misfit vampire who steals his heart. As a serial killer continues to prey on teen boys in their small Swedish village, Eli helps Oskar find the courage to stand up to his tormenters.
Rated R, 1 hr. 54 min., 2008
Our Opinion:
This is a darling of a horror film. A puppy love story of two 12 year olds with a little twist, Eli is a vampire. It is a rare that foreign films can capture a world wide audience like this one. There is talk of an English re-make. It is a true gem and if you like vampire movies this one is very interesting and should be added to your collection. See trailer: Let the Right One In

Description:
This macabre anthology, like “Creepshow”, features five short horror films, including “The Exterminator,” in which a ruthless businessman gets a taste of his own medicine — and then some — when he’s abducted by his own hatchet man. Other eerie tales include “Turnout,” “The Range,” “Night Scream” and “Dead Letters,” in which a grieving writer discovers a way to resurrect his beloved dead wife — but at what cost?
Rated R, 2 hr. 28 min., 2008
Our Opinion:
Don’t waste your time with this one. This movie contains the following; bad acting, bad writing, bad lighting, horrible audio and bad story telling. Why these types of films are available for rent is beyond me. If this was a film student’s assignment, they probably got a D.
Seventh Moon

Description:
Melissa (Amy Smart) and Yul (Tim Chiou) are enjoying the Hungry Ghost Festival immensely, but their hosts think they’re enjoying it too much. Soon, the couple is abandoned in the middle of nowhere — but they’re far from being alone.
Rated R, 1 hr. 27 min., 2008
Our Opinion:
Run from this one as far as you can. It is a rip off. It is amazing what they call movies these days. You see an actress like Amy Smart on the cover and you think well how could they make a bad movie with a well known celebrity. Well they can. In fact, it seemed like a cheap excuse to write-off a vacation to China. The entire film is hand-held and dark. When I say dark I mean there is nothing on the screen to see.
Surveillance

Description:
Revealing the stunning truth behind a horrific string of homicides near Santa Fe, a young girl (Ryan Simpkins), police officer (Kent Harper) and drug addict (Pell James) spill their wildly different witness accounts to FBI agents Elizabeth Anderson (Julia Ormond) and Sam Hallaway (Bill Pullman). Jennifer Chambers Lynch (Boxing Helena) directs this thriller that co-stars Michael Ironside, Cheri Oteri and French Stewart.
Rated R, 1 hr. 37 min., 2007
Our Opinion:
Found this little gem cross-referencing other horror movies. How could Bill Pullman make a bad movie? So I took a chance. This one written and directed by Jennifer Chambers Lynch (yes, David Lynch’s daughter) will keep you on the edge of your seat. While not a fast pace movie, you will find yourself hanging on every word. About mid-way through the film you will start to scratch your head. Nothing is really what it seems. You won’t have any love for the bad cops that are being interviewed by the FBI, but karma is a bitch right? Brilliant movie.
Dead Girl

Description:
After skipping school, Rickie (Shiloh Fernandez) and JT (Noah Segan) break into the boiler room of a deserted mental hospital, then make a shocking discovery: the plastic-covered naked body of a woman lying on a gurney. When they realize that the woman may be alive, JT shocks Rickie by suggesting they take advantage of her. But all is not as it seems in this dark thriller: The door to the boiler room had been rusted shut for years.
Rated R, 1 hr. 41 min., 2008
Our Opinion:
Yep, they went over the line and get to be placed in our “Disturbing” category. You will probably want to take a shower after seeing this one. The characters are rich and will have you screaming “Don’t Go There…” While a bit low budget, generally this film is well put together and will keep your attention. The trailer is mild compared to the actual movie. I’d like to say more but I don’t want to spoil it for you. There are some interesting developments in the last half of the film. See Trailer

Description:
Anna (Naomi Watts) and George (Tim Roth) are enjoying a vacation with their son when two sadistic young men (Michael Pitt and Brady Corbet) break into their cabin and hold the family hostage. The psychotic duo plays twisted games with their prisoners, forcing them to comply to stay alive. Director Michael Haneke remakes his chilling 1997 German-language film as an indictment of the media’s fascination with violence.
Rated R, 1 hr. 51 min., 2007
Our Opinion:
This is psychological horror at its best. What would you do if placed in this situation? Naomi is always great, but this is probably not her best film. Not because of her its just not mainstream like her other films. You will feel something watching this movie.
