Wrong Turn
By · CommentsStar Rating: 5
Description:
An indescribable nightmare begins when Scott (Desmond Harrington) crashes into a carload of five other young people (Eliza Dushku, Jeremy Sisto and Emmanuelle Chriqui). Now they are stranded on an isolated road deep in the Appalachian hills of West Virginia, with no hope of rescue. Four of them soon get lost in the woods of West Virginia, where they’re hunted by three cannibalistic mountain men who are grossly disfigured via generations of inbreeding.
Rated R, 1 hr. 25 min., 2003
Our Opinion:
You can never get enough of these backwoods cannibal types that prey on unsuspecting passers by or tourists. This is a very well produced movie. You will be holding on to your boyfriend when you see the 4 get caught inside the home of these hillbilly in-breds while they prepare one of their friends for dinner. You have to hold back your screams like they did so that you don’t get discovered.
Cabin Fever

Description:
Five college friends (Rider Strong, Jordan Ladd, Joey Kern, Cerina Vincent, and James DeBello) head off to the woods for a weekend of drinking, partying and fooling around. But as they sit at their campfire the first night, a blood-soaked hermit approaches them. He appears to have been infected with a flesh-eating bacterial virus, and as the hapless kids start to catch the bug, paranoia and hostility run rampant. Combine that with a bad-tempered dog and a party-loving police deputy (Giuseppe Andrews, giving a particularly funny performance), leads everyone into confusion and bloody chaos.
Rated R, 1 hr. 32 min., 2003
Our Opinion:
This is destine to be a cult classic by Eli Roth (Hostel). This is a fun movie to watch and the actors really got into their characters. You can sense the enthusiasm which really propelled this nothing low-budget flick to much higher quality piece of art. I hope to see more like this from Eli. This another one that you will dust off from time to time to show friends.
Jeepers Creepers

Description:
When the bickering siblings witness a creepy truck driver tossing body bags into a sewer near an abandoned church, they investigate. Bad move! A college-age brother and sister (Justin Long and Gina Philips) get more than they bargained for on their road trip home from spring break. Opening a Pandora’s Box of unspeakable evil, the pair must flee for their lives — with a monstrous “shape” in hot pursuit.
Rated R, 1 hr. 30 min., 2001
Our Opinion:
This is the type of horror movie that I like. They spend a lot of time getting you into the characters, however, still this strange creature-man has no explanation, but our characters have to deal with him and we are right there with them. Easy to like and see again. It would be no surprise if a sequel comes out.
The Cell
By · CommentsStar Rating: 5
Description:
Directed by Tarsem Singh (in his big-screen debut), this harrowing, mind-bending thriller features a strong supporting cast. Schizoid serial killer Carl Stargher (Vincent D’Onofrio) has been captured at last, but a neurological seizure has rendered him comatose, and FBI agent Peter Novak (Vince Vaughan) has no way to determine the location of Stargher’s latest and still-living victim. To probe the secrets contained in Stargher’s traumatized psyche, the FBI recruits psychologist Catherine Deane (Jennifer Lopez), who has mastered a new technology that allows her to enter the mind of another person. What she finds in Stargher’s head is a theater of the grotesque, which, as envisioned by first-time director Tarsem Singh, is a smorgasbord of the surreal that borrows liberally from the Brothers Quay, Czech animator Jan Svankmajer, Hieronymous Bosch, Salvador Dali, and a surplus of other cannibalized sources.
Rated R, 1 hr. 47 min., 2000
Our Opinion:
This movie is visually stunning. Very artsy bazaar and surreal. At times shocking. You really get the sense that you are in the mind of a psychopathic serial killer. I liked this one for its originality and the art references. This is one you will want to see again and again.
Saw 4
By · CommentsStar Rating: 5
Description:
This Saw finds Jeff Reinhart (Angus Macfadyen) searching for his missing daughter, but a videotape from the dead serial killer Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) is Jeff’s only lead in his frantic hunt. Picking up where its grisly predecessor left off, the film switches back and forth in time throughout previous Saw films and ties up some lingering — and bloody — loose ends. Darren Lynn Bousman, who helmed the film’s second and third chapters, directs.
Rated R, 1 hr. 32 min., 2007
Our Opinion:
There are many Saw fans that pick which one is their favorite. I am not sure which is mine, but I thought this one was better than 2 & 3. The traps were good and the over-all production quality was better than the previous. It appears that the producers and directors are perfecting their franchise. I look forward to the new ones coming up.
The Ring
By · CommentsStar Rating: 5
Description:
Newspaper reporter Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts) was naturally skeptical of the story. It sounded like just another urban legend: a videotape filled with nightmarish images, leading to a phone call foretelling the viewer’s death in exactly 7 days. That was until four teens died mysteriously one week after watching such a tape. Curious, Rachel tracks down the video and watches it … and now, she has just 7 days to unravel the mystery of the “Ring.”
Rated PG-13, 1 hr. 55 min., 2002
Our Opinion:
Originally an adaptation of a Japanese horror film called Ringu. This is an excellent movie. It was interesting learning about Samara who never sleeps and drives her mother and the horses crazy. Disturbing images are projected on this video tape that when people see it they get the call that they only have 7 days left before they die. The tape and the water is not believable but they are elements that make up the language of this film. The good horror is coming out of Japan.
Seven
By · CommentsStar Rating: 5
Description:
The seasoned Detective Sommerset (Morgan Freeman) researches each sin in an effort to get inside the killer’s mind, while his novice partner, Mills (Brad Pitt), scoffs at his efforts to unravel the case. The two homicide detectives are on a desperate hunt for a serial killer (Kevin Spacey) whose crimes are based on the “seven deadly sins” in this dark and haunting film that takes viewers from the tortured remains of one victim to the next.
Rated R, 2 hr. 7 min., 1995
Our Opinion:
The writing and the characters are so rich with texture. It gets down to the grit and grime of a rainy week in a big city. While you don’t actually see the murders performed, always the after math, there is an enormous creep factor. The whole story intertwines between these two detectives who are following evidence at the scene of each crime which are horrifically staged as if to lead them to the next and the perpetrator who slips up just a little bit and gets deep into their heads. It is so well done that you will want to watch it again and again.
Incident On and Off a Mountain Road
By · CommentsStar Rating: 3
Description:
Writer-director Don Coscarelli, of Phantasm and Beastmaster fame, adapted this entry in the Showtime series from a short story by cult horror writer Joe R. Landsdale. Ellen (Bree Turner) is chased through the night woods by the maniacal Moonface (John De Santis). Ellen defends herself by rigging a series of booby traps she learned from her cruel survivalist husband (Ethan Embry). But her tricks may not be enough to stave off the creepy predator.
Rated R, 51 min., 2005
Our Opinion:
This is a short horror film and I usually do not include made-for-showtime flicks, but I thought this one was interesting enough to bring to your attention. I gave it a 3 out of 5 rating but it may for some be closer to 2. I had issue with Ellen’s character being able to build booby traps while being chased. Now the monster called moon face I thought was unique. They could have re-done this movie and concentrated more on moon face.
100 Feet

Description:
Marnie (Famke Janssen) returns to New York to serve the remainder of her manslaughter sentence under house arrest because she killed her abusive cop husband, Mike (Michael Paré),. But Mike’s vengeful ghost isn’t done taunting her in this gripping supernatural thriller. Meanwhile, Mike’s ex-partner (Bobby Cannavale) keeps close tabs on Marnie, who must wear an ankle bracelet that doesn’t allow her to escape — let alone move past a 100-foot radius.
Rated R, 1 hr. 45 min., 2008
Our Opinion:
This is a surprisingly good movie. I only gave it 3 stars, but for something different I recommend it. I almost would not have seen this if I hadn’t dug deep in the on demand files on NetFlix. It must have been a sleeper, never heard of it. Famke brings the main character to life, you will recognizer her from other movies like X-Men and of course our fav House on Haunted Hill. They did a great job with the ghost and the story is unique.
End of the Line

Description:
The captives fight back, but can their feeble resistance stand up to the demonic powers that are hunting them down? When her subway train grinds to a halt during her evening commute, psychiatric nurse Karen (Ilona Elkin) and the other passengers become the trapped targets of an apocalyptic religious cult bent on sacrificing them all in the name of their strange god. Maurice Devereaux directs this gruesome horror flick. Nicolas Wright co-stars.
Rated R, 1 hr. 35 min., 2007
Our Opinion:
I would almost give this one 4 stars because it felt original, but my rule is that in order to get a 4 star rating I would want to see it again. I do recommend it though. They combine crazy religious zealots with a zombie type of group killing spree all in the name of the apocalypse. There are some subtle details in the story line that I found intriguing.
