My Bloody Valentine
By · CommentsStar Rating: 3
Description:
Tom (Jensen Ackles) returns to his hometown to find some closure. But no sooner does he arrive when a pickax-wielding madman begins a new bloody killing spree. Haunted by the mining-related massacre that took place there on Valentine’s Day a decade ago, many suspect that the murderous miner has returned to claim his final victims — including Tom. Patrick Lussier directs this remake of the 1981 horror classic.
Rated R, 1 hr. 41 min., 2009
Our Opinion:
This is a remake from the 1981 version only this time in 3D. It is obvious when you watch the DVD that they try to make things come out at you to push the 3D effect. The special effects were pretty good and overall this isn’t a bad movie. It is just a tired slasher plot. Nothing new here and not really terrifying according to our taste.
Monster Man
By · CommentsStar Rating: 4
Description:
Two buddies, played by Adam (Eric Jungmann) and Harley (Justin Urich), set out on a road trip only to find themselves in a heap of trouble when obnoxious Harley makes the wrong people mad at a seedy biker bar. The two are forced to run for their lives when one man gets behind the wheel of his truck and tries to plow the pair down. Will they be able to escape this monster truck with its monstrous driver, or will they become road-kill?
Rated R, 1 hr. 35 min., 2003
Our Opinion:
This low budget film is very entertaining. The dialog and antics between Adam and Harley are very funny. Why not have a scary monster truck with a hideous driver chase you all over the desert? They had a lot of fun making this movie and you won’t mind seeing it a second or third time. This one gets cult status and would be a great addition to any movie night with friends. See the trailer…
House On Haunted Hill

Description:
Tycoon Steven Price (Geoffrey Rush) offers a $1 million proposal to stay one night in a former insane asylum. Eddie (Taye Diggs), Melissa (Bridgette Wilson), Sara (Ali Larter), Donald (Peter Gallagher) and Watson (Chris Kattan) think it’s child’s play until Price’s rigged antics are accompanied by real menacing spirits. Can everyone make it till dawn and win the prize money? Famke Janssen co-stars as Price’s haughty wife, Evelyn.
Rated R, 1 hr. 33 min., 1999
Our Opinion:
This is a fun horror movie to watch over and over again. It has a nice rythm to it and it was very well produced. This movie actually follows the orginal 1959 version starring Vincent Price. All the characters are rich. Chris Kattan was very amusing. If you get the chance, view the extra features on the DVD. I highly recommend this film.

Description:
Amber Valletta and Donnie Wahlberg co-star in this chilling horror offering from James Wan and Leigh Whannell, the same team that created the grizzly Saw trilogy. In the wake of his young bride’s mysterious death, grieving newlywed Jamie Ashen (Ryan Kwanten) is forced to return to his haunted hometown, where he butts heads with the ghost of a creepy ventriloquist who was infamously murdered years ago.
Rated R, 1 hr. 30 min., 2007
Our Opinion:
This one will make you say WOW! There have been ventriloquist movies in the past and they were boring. These guys did an excellent job on this one. You will want to watch this one again. The movies’ background music is very creepy and really delivers the overall chill for a scary movie. The twist at the end I thought was good. I read a lot of reviews that were very critical about this movie. My gosh this is a real gem compared to a lot of the others out there.
Trick’r Treat
By · CommentsStar Rating: 3
Description:
Several stories weave together, such as a loner fending off a demented trick-or-treater’s attacks, kids uncovering a freaky secret, a school principal — who moonlights as a serial killer — poisoning his candy, and more. The usually boisterous traditions of Halloween turn baleful, and everyone in a small town tries to survive one night in pure hell in writer-director Michael Dougherty’s fright fest. Dylan Baker, Anna Paquin and Brian Cox star.
Rated R, 1 hr. 22 min., 2008
Our Opinion:
This one comes from Warner Brothers and the production quality is good except for some dark scenes where it was hard to see what was going on. This is a strange film and when you see it you will know what I mean. If you don’t read the description for the movie where it talks about that there are several intertwined stories, you will become confused. It is interesting and entertaining, however, there isn’t a plot so there is nothing to think about. For that it is good for only one viewing.
The Grudge 3
By · CommentsStar Rating: 2
Description:
Fearful of meeting a gruesome death, young Jake (Matthew Knight) tries to convince his psychiatrist (Shawnee Smith) that an evil curse led to the slaughter of his entire family. Meanwhile, a young woman from Japan (Emi Ikehata) arrives in Chicago and attempts to stop the curse for good. This third installment of the popular Grudge horror movie series also stars Marina Sirtis, Beau Mirchoff and Johanna E. Braddy.
Rated R, 1 hr. 30 min., 2009
Our Opinion:
We weren’t expecting this to be a great film but hoped it would surprise us. It didn’t. It remains to be the same tired old story that we saw in the first two movies however progressively worse and boring. It was a very quiet movie and I had nodded off a couple of times. Many scenes were too dark. Just not interesting at all. Save your time on this one.
I Spit on Your Grave
By · CommentsStar Rating: 3
Description:
Director Meir Zarchi’s revenge movie has the dubious honor of containing one of the longest and most violent gang-rape scenes on film. When writer Jenny Hill (Camille Keaton) rents a remote cabin, she’s surprised to find that the local townsfolk are friendly — too friendly, in fact. What follows is decidedly unpleasant: After being brutalized, violated and left for dead, Jenny goes on her own spree of killing, mutilation and castration.
Rated R, 1 hr. 40 min., 1978
Our Opinion:
This is a golden oldie but still very shocking even for today’s audience. It is typical of 70’s type films with long scenes and campy dialog. The audio was pretty bad even though the version I watched was remastered in digital dolby. Perhaps they had to. This is a graphic film which had a hard time keeping an R rating when it was released. The mainstream movie critics didn’t like it. Horror fans loved it because it goes to the edge and maybe beyond. That is why it deserves cult status. I had to see it because I was curious what other horror fans were talking about.
Drag Me to Hell
By · CommentsStar Rating: 4
Description:
After denying a woman the extension she needs to keep her home, loan officer Christine Brown (Alison Lohman) sees her once-promising life take a startling turn for the worse. Christine is convinced she’s been cursed by a Gypsy, but her boyfriend (Justin Long) is skeptical. Now, her only hope seems to lie in a psychic (Dileep Rao) who claims he can help her lift the curse and keep her soul from being dragged straight to hell.
Rated PG-13, 99 min., 2009
Our Opinion:
True horror fans will appreciate this movie because Sam Raimi goes back to his roots with horror mixed with slap-stick comedy. Yes a bit weird but entertaining just the same for those of you who don’t know what we are talking about. This is a very well polished film worth watching a few times. Excellent character development and great writing really take you away with an added dose of special effects. I hope Sam does more of these. See the trailer…
Solstice

Description:
Before going off to college, Megan (Elisabeth Harnois) and her friends take one last summer trip to the bayou, despite the recent suicide of Megan’s twin, Sophie. Soon, Megan feels Sophie’s presence, and as the friends try to conjure up her spirit, the horror begins. Shawn Ashmore, Tyler Hoechlin, Amanda Seyfried, Matt O’Leary and Hilarie Burton also star in this thriller directed by Daniel Myrick (The Blair Witch Project).
Rated PG-13, 1 hr. 30 min., 2007
Our Opinion:
There is nothing like a good old young lovers in love, especially if one of them just had sex with their dead sister’s boyfriend. We spend the whole movie trying to figure out what happened when Megan’s sister died. It’s a little slow but still had good entertainment value. Production was top notch. This is not a cheapo low budget film. Great sound track!
Insanitarium

Description:
Determined to rescue his sister from a mental hospital, Jack Romero (Jesse Metcalfe) masquerades as a madman to gain entry to the asylum, where he finds a deranged sawbones (Peter Stormare) using patients as guinea pigs in bizarre experiments. To keep his involuntarily committed sibling — and himself — from becoming cannibalistic psychos like the doctor’s other victims, Jack will need all his ingenuity in this direct-to-video splatterfest.
Rated R, 1 hr. 29 min., 2008
Our Opinion:
Not bad. The only way that you could tell the “just insane” from the “rabid insane” was by the color of their eyes. I thought that was a nice touch. Very bloody. I am OK with bloody but they do over do it a bit. There was a point in the film where things were coming together with weird music and running through blue hospital hallways with blood every where. Would have made a more accurate portrayal of the movie as cover art.
